Portrait Sculpture Development & Pricing.

When you decide to commission a work, we will have an initial discussion on the parameters of the sculpture, with decisions on size, angle, facial characteristics, theme, and style of portrait etc. Also we will establish the detailing information on the sculptural and subsequent casting processes.

Then photographs of the subjects need to be sourced or can be taken by me.  This includes information on style, pose etc of the subjects.  These can be taken directly and need to depict frontal, left and right lateral and rear aspect of the subject (note – the more information available, the more detailed quality of the sculpture).CatBronse

A sculpture is made in clay.

Sculpture work takes between 4-6 weeks.

Work completed can be reviewed at any time with any alterations implemented.  Images showing sculpture development are sent by email regularly.

Powderhall BronzeBronze Casting.

A traditional and durable long term cast sculpture can be made in bronze and there is an excellent bronze foundry in Edinburgh called Powderhall Bronze.  See costs below.

A more modest cast sculpture can be completed in cold cast resin and although the results look the same, the structure is more fragile.  Again, the Powderhall Bronze foundry supplies this service.  See costs below.

Throughout the casting process, the sculpture can be reviewed and decisions made on the finishing patina of the portrait as well as base requirements (mount).

I would coordinate and monitor the casting process.

The bronze casting process takes 6-8 weeks.

Pricing.

Prices are based on a portrait sculpture of approx 41 x 26 x 24cm (approx life size).

Prices of casting are approximate figures at the time of writing this and are subject to VAT.

Prices do not include a base but one can be arranged depending on your requirements.

Prices are reviewed and agreed prior to casting process, on submission of sculpture images, requirements and dimensions.

A 50% deposit (cheque) to the bronze foundry is payable upon commencement of the casting process and the balance on completion/collection and this is met by the client. www.powderhallbronze.co.uk

Biography  About Me!
I am a portrait artist and sculptor with a BA(Hons) in Sculpture from Edinburgh College of Art. I created The Philosophy Cat to combine my love of faces and philosophical quotes. The Philosophy Cat’s search is simple, its the search for meaning! Meaning through words and art, through the wisdom of others and through family and friends. Join The Philosophy Cat family by sending in original pictures of your pets and/or fav quotes for your chance to see your pet turned into art for the world to see. Simply download photos, a quote and a biography of your pet to The Philosophy Cat and maybe you could see them in print!
By sending in photos, you agree to have your photo turned into art and published by The Philosophy Cat. I have exhibited my work at various exhibitions and galleries, including the RSA (Royal Society of Artists) in Edinburgh. Sculptures are available on this site to buy, and portraits are available on commission.
